Subhash Velingkar: Even Lord Ram have to spend money to win elections

Making a controversial remark, former Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief of Goa on Thursday said that even Lord Ram would have had to spend money to get elected in the current political situation.

Addressing a  youth convention of the Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) in Panaji, he said, as quoted by NDTV, “During elections, politicians are busy luring two kinds of people whom they find gullible – the youth and women – by offering them cash or gifts.”

He was of the opinion that in the current situation money power has more influence to win elections. He added, “In the current situation, even Shri Ram would not be able to get elected if he doesn’t spend money.” Velingkar had floated the Goa Suraksha Manch just a day before the 2017 Goa Assembly elections after CM Manohar Parrikar decided to drop two ailing ministers from the state Cabinet.

Accusing Parrikar to indulge in the same practice like other parties, he had accused that BJP has lost morality. He said, “(Manohar) Parrikar dropped two ministers from the cabinet because they are sick but he himself remains stuck to his position despite being critically ill.”

It is to be known that Goa CM is currently admitted to AIIMS in Delhi for a pancreatic ailment. Though he had requested the BJP chief Amit Shah to look for options, his request was denied.
