Stuart Law steps down as West Indies head coach
West Indies head coach Stuart Law on Monday, has announced that he would step down from his job, after the team completes the tours of India and Bangladesh this year.
While making his resignation public, Law stated that he would start his role as the coach of English County Championship club Middlesex for four years.
A veteran of 54 ODIs and one Test match for Australia, Law, a former right-hander had earlier been the head coach of the national teams of Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Confirming his decision in a statement by Cricket West Indies (CWI), Law, said, “I have had to make the difficult decision to leave my role of head coach with CWI.”
“It has been very enjoyable, and I believe we have made tremendous strides forward as a team during the past two years,” he added further.
Speaking on his new assignment, Law, as quoted by NDTV Sports, said, ” It is a great provide to be asked to coach Middlesex and to accept one of the plum jobs in world cricket.”
“There is never a good time to leave but the opportunity to work with Middlesex for four years at the home of cricket was too good to decline,” Law elaborated further.
The 49-year old took charge of the West Indies team in February 2017 and last summer, he guided his team spectacular Test series over England at the Headingley.
Thus, the West Indies would have a new coach at the helm when they host England in January.
Jimmy Adams, the director of cricket at the West Indies said, ” While I regret is leaving and the timing of it, I fully understand his reasons, and along with everyone at Cricket West Indies want to thank him for his dedication and commitment whilst in the role and wish him the very best of luck at Middlesex.”
