Shareholders may not have good day on Wednesday as domestic stock markets shed over 150 points in the early trade, while Nifty also fell below the 11,000-mark.
After a positive start, BSE Sensex declined 158.54 points, or 0.43 percent, to trade at 36,367.60. The NSE Nifty50 index also went down by 53.25 points or 0.48 percent to trade at 10,955.05. On the other side, the partially convertible rupee hit 73.34 per dollar in early trade, an all-time low.
The main losers on Sensex were Induslnd Bank, Asian Paints, Larsen & Tourbo, ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti. While Eicher Motors, Infratel, Ultracemco, Maruti and Bharti Airtel were the main laggards on NSE Nifty.
The prominent gainers in the 30-share Sensex pack were Yes Bank, Sun Pharma, Infosys, ONGC, HDFC. Yes Bank, Tech Mahindra, Cipla, Dr Reddy’s and ONGC led the pack of Nifty gainers. However in the global markets, Asian shares too traded lower on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, the domestic stock markets were closed on account of Gandhi Jayanti. On Monday, the equity indices witnessed volatility with Sensex and Nifty staging a strong recovery in the final hour of trade.
