Actress Rhea Chakraborty was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Tuesday. After spending the night at the Narcotics Control Bureau office she has been brought to the Byculla Jail. The Byculla jail is the only prison for women inmates in Mumbai. Rhea will be in custody there till September 22.
Rhea was arrested by the agency in connection with a drug case related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. Her lawyer Satish Maneshinde is expected to file a bail plea at the Sessions Court by about 11 am.
Immediately after her arrest, Rhea was taken for medical tests including the COVID-19 test to the civic-run Sion hospital in Central Mumbai. At the hospital, her antigen test for COVID-19 came out negative. The actress was taken to the NCB office in South Mumbai and produced before a magistrate through video-conference. Rhea has been sent in judicial custody till September 22 by the local court. Her Bail plea was also rejected.
The NCB told the court that she was an ‘active member’ of a drugs syndicate and procured drugs for Rajput. The Agency added that it did not want her custody as it had already questioned her for three days. This apparently means that Rhea will be eligible for bail and so will her brother Showik.
