Deepa Chatterjee wife of late actor Soumitra Chatterjee passes away in Kolkata
Late acting legend Soumitra Chatterjee‘s wife Deepa Chatterjee passed away in the early hours of Sunday. The veteran actress breathed her last at a Kolkata hospital. Deepa Chatterjee was admitted to a Kolkata hospital on March 31. She was 83 and died of kidney failure.
In a statement to Calcutta Times, Paulami Bose revealed that her mother Deepa Chatterjee was admitted to a hospital in Kolkata’s Beleghata because of deteriorating health. She passed away around 2:55 am of kidney failure.
Paulami Bose added that her mother lost the zeal to live after the death of Soumitra Chatterjee’s demise. “After Bapi (dad Soumitra Chatterjee) left us in November, maa lost the will to live. She kept on telling us, ‘Please let me go now.”
Deepa Chatterjee was a badminton champion. She has featured in few movies. One of them being Uttam Kumar and Supriya Choudhury’s 1970 movie Bilambita Lay. She also starred in films such as Durga (2001).
Soumitra and Deepa got married in 1960 and were parents to two children. They are survived by their daughter Poulami Bose and son Sougata Chatterjee.
Soumitra Chatterjee had passed away on November 15. He breathed his last at Bellevue Nursing Home after being hospitalised for nearly a month. Despite a marginal improvement, on 25 October, his condition further deteriorated and on November 15, he passed away in Kolkata.
The actor’s funeral was attended by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee as well as several cinema personalities from the Bengali film industry. He was given a gun salute as a mark of honour.
