As Sonu Nigam turns 45, he continues to touch many hearts through his melodies
At the age of four was the first time he discovered his melodious voice. When he didn’t even know that god has gifted him something that will touch so many hearts with different emotions.
The first ever song he sang on stage was Mohammed Rafi’s, ‘Kya Hua Tera Wada’, joining his father Agam Kumar Nigam.
Then he never looked back accompanying his father at various wedding parties or stage shows, Nigam eventually mastered in various singing genre like Romantic, Rock, Sad, Devotional, Ghazal and Patriotic songs.
When he moved to Mumbai, he was just 18 years of age and wanted to begin his Bollywood singing career. He was trained by Hindustani classical singer Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan.
Not just limited to Bollywood but Sonu has sung in Assamese, Bengali, Bhojpuri, Chhattisgarhi, English, Kannada, Maithili, Malayalam, Marathi, Nepali, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, Tulu and Urdu till date. Among which Kannada music industry considers him as one of the prominent singers who contributed towards their music.
His first film song as a playback singer was for Janam (1990) but never released onscreen. Hence his first released song was ‘O Aasman Wale’ from the movie Aaja Meri Jaan (1992).
His approach is always being open when it comes to experimenting, so does says his work with various music composers. This approach made him reach to the audience, outside the country. Because he once collaborated with Britney Spears in 2011 on a remix of her ‘I Wanna Go’ track and with DJ Avicii on his song ‘Indian Levels’, produced by Avicii in 2012.

Received so many achievements for his contribution and talent in Indian music industry. Along with blessings of his fans he grabbed lot of praises from significant music composers in India, one of them were Laxmikant- Pyarelal. Singers like respected Lata Mangeshkar, Shankar Mahadevan, Asha Bhosale loved him from new generation of singers in 90’s.
He managed to grab audience appreciation through his acting career as well. Though not trained or full time actor but Sonu perceived hosting, judging in television singing reality shows and acted in films like Jaani Dushman: Ek Anokhi Kahani, Kash Aap Hamare Hote and Love in Nepal etc. He has also dubbed for several animated films.
Just a glance on the controversies he was involved in, if you remember in the start of year 2017, Nigam deleted his Twitter account stating lack of respect for freedom of speech. As Sonu tweeted against making the Azaan through loudspeakers, not against any specific religious ritual but he believed that the use of loudspeakers on religious buildings contributes towards noise pollution.
His latest playback song is from film ‘Sanju’ named ‘Main Badhiya Tu Bhi Badhiya’ along with Sunidhi Chauhan. On his birthday, we wish him ‘jammin slammin’ birthday along with more success and versatility. We also wish, that he continues conquering hearts and make people fall in love with his melodies.
