Earlier there were reports that the Congress Interim-chief, Sonia Gandhi may step down from her post, due to the ongoing rift in the party. This move came after 23 Congress leaders wrote a letter to her seeking structural changes in the party. However, on Sunday i,e August 23 the reports state that she has resigned from her post.
According to the reports, the Congress president has responded to a letter written by a group of her party leaders. Her response was apparently that all of them should get together and search for a replacement of her. A recent report by Republic quoted the source saying that Sonia Gandhi in her response to the party leaders, has aked the leaders that all of them should get together and find a new chief. Sources also state that Gandhi has indicated does not want to carry out the responsibilities any further. The Congress is allegedly now planning to vote a ‘non-Gandhi’ president once Sonia Gandhi steps down.
Reportedly, she had earlier told them that she was not interested in leading the party all again when the Congress Working Committee (CWC) on August 10 requested her to assume the reins of the organisation again. She had apparently accepted the post of the interim chief after much persuasions and only on one condition that the party will find her replacement soon.
