Indian Matchmaking has been the talk of the town ever since it has been released on Netflix. The show revolves around the matchmaker Sima Taparia who guides clients in the U.S. and India in the arranged marriage process, offering an inside look at the custom in a modern era, according to Netflix.
However, ‘Indian Matchmaking’ has received lots of negative comments and criticism for its portrayal as well as for seeming to endorse gender stereotypes, colorism, and classism. Now, the host and matchmaker of the show, Sima Taparia reacts to the criticism and online memes towards the show.
Addressing the criticism, Taparia told Pinkvilla, “I always take everything positive. It makes me stronger.”
Further, she also thanked the viewers for the love, “I thank all my viewers for their love. It’s been really great reading reviews and messages from social media. I love my fans too,” she said.
Reacting to the social media memes online, she said, “I have read quite a few as time permits and love them. At present viewers are calling/ sending mails and I am trying to answer them as much as possible.” Talking about the clients from ‘Indian Matchmaking,’ she said, “Keeping long term relation is the key here. Once I meet them neither I forget not do they.”
Lastly, talking about the second season of the show, Sima said it is up to the streaming platform (Netflix) to decide. “The show is still very young. Netflix will decide in time to come,” she ended.
