Shiv Sena leader Rajul Patel has used her clout and muscle power to shut down a school only two days after it was opened last month in Mumbai’s Oshiwara. The Sena corporator took the step as she was not invited for the inauguration ceremony.
Patel told Mumbai Mirror, “This is my fourth term (as corporator) in office. I should’ve been informed about the school’s opening, but they (school authorities) didn’t feel the need to do so.”
Making unwarranted use of her power, Patel has insisted that the English-medium municipal school will only reopen after Mayor Vishwanath Mahadeshwar inaugurates it on July 5.
As the school remained shut, the 230 students who had enrolled there suffered the most. It was inaugurated with classes till seventh standard.
The parents of the students also demonstrated a protest outside the school last month. One of the parents said, “We cannot afford the fees of private schools. It’s too late now to seek admission in other schools. Our children’s academic year will go to waste. We just want the school to reopen quickly.”
