Senorita singer Shawn Mendes has come forward to help out during the coronavirus pandemic by donating to Toronto’s SickKids Foundation. The Canadian pop star has donated $175,000 to the foundation. Shawn Mendes announced that he was making the donation through The Shawn Mendes Foundation. Mendes also shared that he would be donating all incoming donations for the next month to SickKids and the World Health Organization (WHO).
“The @shawnfoundation & I have been working to find ways to best support COVID-19 relief efforts, and to direct our resources to where we can make a difference. We’ve made a donation to @sickkidssvs hospital this week to help support the urgent screening and prevention of COVID-19 in my hometown of Toronto. For the next month, all donations to The Shawn Mendes Foundation will go towards SickKids Hospital & relief efforts around the world by the @WHO.”
Ted Gerrard, Chief Executive Officer of the SickKids Foundation, thanked Shawn Mendes for donating to the cause in a statement to Entertainment Tonight Canada.
“We are so grateful to Shawn and The Shawn Mendes Foundation for their continued support of SickKids Foundation and our hospital here in Toronto. This generous and timely donation will assist our hospital with increased efforts in prevention and screening of COVID-19.”
The Shawn Mendes foundation also shared tips for staying safe as well as mental health support resources through Instagram last week.
In addition, Shawn got together with his girlfriend Camila Cabello to put on a concert on Instagram Live for Global Citizen’s Together at Home series. Shawn and Camila sang “Lost in Japan,” “Havana,” and their hit duo “Senorita.”
