Shashi Tharoor to face trial on July 07 in Sunanda Pushkar death case
Congress Leader Shashi Tharoor has to face trial in the death of his wife Sunanda Pushkar on July 07.
Delhi Court has summoned Tharoor as an accused party on July 07. After taking cognizance of the charge sheet filed in the Pushkar death case, Delhi Court set the date today.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal said: “There are sufficient materials at this stage to proceed against Tharoor. I have gone through and perused the charge sheet and documents filed along with it. Upon the police report, I take cognizance of the charges of abetment of suicide of the late Sunanda Pushkar and committing cruelty upon her by Shashi Tharoor.”
Former Union Minister has called the charges “preposterous” and the Congress has called the charge sheet “politically motivated”.
Sunanda was found dead in suite number 345 of the Leela Hotel, the Delhi Police filed a charge sheet and named her husband and Congress MP Tharoor as an accused in the case four years ago.
Tharoor has been charged under Sections 498 A (husband or his relative subjecting a woman to cruelty) and 306 (abetment of suicide) of the Indian Penal Code.
