Shashi Tharoor appeals for anticipatory bail on Sunanda murder case
Senior Congress leader MP Shashi Tharoor has moved to Patiala House court with an anticipatory bail plea in the Sunanda Murder death case on Tuesday morning. Taking the matter into consideration, the court decided that it will hear Tharoor’s plea at 10.00 am on Wednesday.
Speaking to the media, Tharoor’s counsel said that since SIT had categorically stated in chargesheet that probe is concluded and no custodial interrogation of any person is required and bail, is inevitable. The counsel said, “SIT categorically stated in chargesheet that probe is concluded and no custodial interrogation of any person is required. Law is very clear that if charge sheet is filed without arrest, bail is inevitable. Matter fixed for consideration at 10 am tomorrow.”
According to the counsel, Tharoor has been summoned by the court on July 7, with charges under IPC sections 306 (abetment of suicide) and 498A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of his wife and subjecting her to cruelty.
Sunanda Pushkar killed herself by overdosing on antidepressant pills in Leela Hotel in south Delhi on January 17, 2014. However, Tharoor dismissed the chargesheet filed by Delhi police by saying it as “preposterous” and said he would contest it.
