The film industry was grieved by the announcement that veteran actress Kishori Ballal has passed away on Tuesday in Bengaluru. The Veteran Bollywood and Kannada actress made her debut in 1960 with Ivalentha Hendthi. She went on to have a career that spanned over 15 years. Amongst her many memorable roles, the role of Kaveri Amma in Swades stands out.
Shah Rukh Khan took to his Twitter account to pay tribute to the late Kishori Ballal. He remembered how she used to scold him for smoking. He shared his sentiments in a tweet, saying, “May her soul rest in peace. Kishori ‘Amma’ will be sorely missed. Especially how she used to reprimand me for smoking. May Allah look after her.”
Earlier, Swades director Ashutosh Gowariker also took to social media to express his grief over the news.He wrote, “HEARTBROKEN! Terribly sad about the passing away of #KishoriBallal ji!! Kishori ji… you will be remembered for your generously kind, warm and affable persona! And your unforgettable performance as #Kaveriamma in #Swades !! You will surely be missed!!”
Kishori Ballal acted in over 75 movies during her career. Most notably, she worked with Rani Mukerji in Aiyyaa and Deepika Padukone in Lafangey Parindey. The veteran actress featured in several movies in various languages like Carry On Maratha, Kahi, Hani Hani, Suryakanthi and Quick Gun Murugun. Some of the Kannada films she has worked in include Kempe Gowda, Aiyyaa, Galaate, and Ring Road. She was last seen on the big screen in 2016’s Kahi.
