Seven funny facts to know about Congress ‘damaad’ Robert Vadra

Robert Rajendra Vadra is an Indian businessman and husband of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra. Hence he is commonly referred as Congress’ ‘damaad’. He was not that well known publicly until he got featured for lot of controversies which also made him digitally famous for being trolled after ‘Pappu’.

We thought to let you know a few facts about Vadra which appear to be funny:

Exemption from pre- embarkation

According to one RTI response, the government said that, “Shri Robert Vadra has been granted exemption from pre-embarkation security checks at all civil airports in the country on the recommendation of this ministry as a special case as he is married to a SPG protectee, that is Smt Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, in consultation with central security agencies.” Yes! it’s true.

Jab We Met

Priyanka Gandhi and Robert Vadra got married on 18 February 1997 in a traditional Hindu ceremony. It is said that they met in a party around 1991-92 and fell in love with each other however they share similar heritage. For example, Robert was born to a European mother and an Indian father similarly even Priyanka was born to Italian mother Sonia Gandhi (Sonia Maino) and Indian father Rajiv Gandhi.

‘Mango people in Banana republic’

Robert Vadra closed his Facebook account after a controversy broke out over a remark he posted on the social networking site. This remark was made in 2012, when Anna Hazare-led anti-corruption movement, the country was raging against the alleged corruptions of the Congress party, Vadra put up a post on Facebook, which read “Mango people in banana republic.”

It seems Robert was very inspired by this quote that he practically applied it. As you must have heard about the real estate deals controversy which made him famous over night so much that the Wall Street Journal published a report detailing out allegations that Vadra had been involved in large-scale corruption and dubious land deals amounting to millions of dollars in Haryana and Rajasthan.

A match between Khemka and Vadra

An IAS officer Ashok Khemka is being transferred 44 times in 23 years for refusing to act in accordance with the corrupt practices of government. In 2012 Khemka went on to cancel a Rs.57-crore deal between Vadra and DLF because it violated government regulations. And this resulted in a case against him by Congress government of Haryana, accusing him with “causing damage to Robert Vadra’s reputation”.

Family secrets

Robert’s father committed suicide under mysterious circumstances, his brother found dead in his Delhi residence and his sister found dead in mysterious car accident. These deaths were reported but not published in any Indian media.
