23-time Grand Slam champion Serena Williams was on Friday left out of the China Open draw after reports emerged that the US Open ugly final defeat was the end of her season.
Venus Williams’ name was also left out of the list of 64 players, who are set to take part in the tournament beginning this Saturday in Beijing.
Serena went down 6-2, 6-4 in a straight sets defeat in the final of the US Open in an epic match. Accused of seeking help from her coach during the match, she alleged that it was an injustice.
It was a tough battle for the 38-year-old, who not just suffered a surprise defeat, but also got into a war with the federation accusing them of sexism.
She later comeback Also added that she wanted to “move on” from the incident, but maintained that women players could not get away with “even half of what a guy can do”.
“Right now we are not, as it’s proven, in that same position,” she told Australia’s Channel Ten.
“But that’s neither here nor there. I’m just trying most of all to recover from that and move on.”
Reports in the US has however informed that her season is over now, making this the fourth such scenario where she had opted to withdraw from tournaments midway, citing her season is over.
