Section 377 Verdict: Politicians, activists welcome SC judgement
The section 377 verdict has been delivered by the Supreme Court, announcing homosexuality legal in India. It further observed LGBT community also has an equal right like others. There were several pleas filed in the Supreme Court challenging the validity of Section 377, but now the apex court has finally declared it legal and abolished Section 377.
Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra has delivered one more historic judgement. He reads the verdict of Section 377, “Sustenance of identity is the pyramid of life.” He further reads, “ Section 377 is irrational, arbitrary and incomprehensible, and LGBT community also enjoys the same right as the other citizen.”
As the Section 377 judgment is declared, and Homosexuality is no more a crime in India, like several other countries around the world. Let’s have a glimpse of Twitter, how people are celebrating the section 377 verdict or reacting.
Renowned Congressman Shashi Tharoor tweeted and wrote that it shames those BJP MPs who vociferously opposed me in Lok Sabha. He was the leader who Introduced a bill in Lok Sabha to decriminalise the homosexuality in India in 2015, but BJP opposed as they were in Majority.
So pleased to learn that the SupremeCourt has ruled against criminalising sexual acts in private. This decision vindicates my stand on Section 377& on exactly the same grounds of privacy, dignity &constitutional freedoms. It shames those BJP MPs who vociferously opposed me in LS.
