Holy cow: Tanzeem Fatima returns gifted cow out of fear
Rising cases of mob lynching and cow vigilantes attacking people in the name of religion seem to have taken a heavy toll on the Muslims in India. So much so that Rajya Sabha MP Tanzeem Fatima, wife of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan, has returned a cow gifted to them by the seers.
A gift from Adhokshjanand Maharaj, the Shankaracharya of the Govardhan Peeth, will not be associated with the leader anymore. And guess what, she blames National Democratic Alliance-ruled Narendra Modi government for this. She also alleged that under Modi regime, vigilantes have got the protection and people from minority communities are unsafe.
Speaking to Zee News, Fatima said, “Past four years of BJP rule has unleashed a reign of terror, especially against the members of the minority community.” She also informed about her pain with which she had to return the ‘Holy Cow’, as the fear of someone killing it and putting the blame on them remains high.
Fatima was upset with the lynching of Akbar Khan who was allegedly attacked by cow vigilantes last week and died after treatment was delayed. The parliamentarian also announced that she would never return to gaushala again. Not only Fatima, but Azam Khan too, had in the past advised people to keep a distance from cows for their own safety.
Earlier, Akbar Khan (28) was allegedly lynched by cow vigilantes on Friday, on suspicion that he was smuggling cows in the Alwar district of Rajasthan. He was thrashed by the mob, while his friend Aslam Khan managed to flee. As per the information, before taking Akbar to the hospital, police bathed him, stopped to have tea and got his clothes changed at the police station. By the time he was taken to hospital, he was dead.
