Ace choreographer Saroj Khan, Bollywood’s ‘Masterji’, dies of cardiac arrest at 71
Ace Bollywood choreographer Saroj Khan left for her heavenly abode on July 3, 2020. The Masterji of Bollywood passed away from cardiac arrest in the early hours of Friday. She was 71. The news of her demise was shared by her nephew Manish Jagwani.
”Saroj Khan passed away due to cardiac arrest at around 2:30 am at the hospital,” her nephew Manish Jagwani told news agency PTI.
Saroj Khan was admitted to Mumbai’s Guru Nanak Hospital last month. She had complained of trouble breathing. Her daughter Sukyna Khan informed that her mother has tested negative for Covid-19. She had later revealed that Saroj Khan is getting better and is likely to be discharged soon. But sadly it looks like things got worse and she lost the fight.
In a career spanning more than four decades, Saroj Khan choreographed more than 2000 songs. Her most famous collaborations were with actors Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi. She won three National Awards for Best Choreography for her work in ‘Devdas’, ‘Jab We Met’, and the 2007 Tamil film ‘Shringaram’. Her last major assignment had been directing Madhuri’s movies in last year’s release, ‘Kalank’.
Saroj Khan is survived by three children namely: Hamid Khan, Hina Khan, and Sukanya Khan. Born as Nirmala Nagpal, Saroj Khan began her career onscreen in Nazarana. She soon became a background dancer under the mentorship of dance director B Sohanlal.
