Simmba actress Sara Ali Khan — who was in Banaras for the shoot of Aanand L Rai directed film ‘Atrangi Re’ — was later joined by mother Amrita Singh and later the duo visited the Kashi Vishwanath temple and participated in the ‘Ganga aarti.’
However, Sara Ali Khan’s Varanasi visit has got her mired in controversy, the Kashi Vikas Samiti raised an objection saying that they did not permit of her visit as she is a ‘non-Hindu.’
A report in IANS states that Chandra Shekhar Kapoor, the secretary of the Samiti said, “The actor’s visit to the temple is against traditions and established norms. It also raises questions on the security of the temple when there is a signboard clearly stating that the entry of ‘non-Hindus’ is prohibited.”
Later, he also said that some priests had violated norms because they had probably got “a handsome dakshina” and free publicity. The Kashi Vikas Samiti has now charged an inquiry into the actor’s visit and action against those responsible.
However, one priest Amarnath Bajpai backed the actress saying that she was accompanied by Amrita Singh, who is a Hindu, another priest Rakesh Mishra said, “Though we appreciate her interest in the Hindu religion but the fact remains that she is a Muslim and should not have participated in the rituals. For her, all this could be ‘interesting and exciting’ but for us, it is a matter of religious piety.”
On the work front, the actress is now gearing up for the release of David Dhawan’s ‘Coolie No. 1‘ with Varun Dhawan, which is scheduled to hit the screens on May 1, 2020. Apart from this, she will also be starring in Aanand L Rai’s musical ‘Atrangi Re’ alongside Dhanush and Akshay Kumar
