Self styled godman Sant Rampal convicted in 2 murder cases
Sant Rampal — a self-styled godman was convicted in two murder cases on Thursday by Haryana court. The quantum of sentence will be declared on October 16 and 17. Rampal is currently lodged in Hisar’s Central Jail-2.
The self-styled godman was arrested in 2014 after a two-week long stand-off between his followers and Police, as he has huge fans following. The stand-off between his followers and Police had killed six people and left several injured.
According to the report, a special court was set up inside the Hisar’s Central Jail-1 to pronounce the judgment through video conference. Ahead of Rampal verdict, almost 1,800 police personnel were deployed and prohibitory orders issued to maintain law and order.
In order to prevent any untoward condition like in Panchkula last year after the conviction of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. The police are checking every single vehicle entering to the town fearing that Rampal’s followers might try to get into Hisar.
According to the report, 48 check posts have been installed in the town to prevent entry of anti-social elements apart from imposing prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC.
Sant Rampal heads a sect that worships the 15th-century poet and mystic Kabir, known for a message of tolerance that is followed by people of varied faiths.
