Curran, a significant gainer in ICC rankings, Kohli retains his top spot
Twenty-year English old all-rounder Sam Curran was a significant gainer in all the categories according to the latest ICC rankings on Monday. The youngster had a significant role to play in England winning the fourth Test match in Southampton by 60 runs-which helped them seal the series 3-1- and thus has gained in the rankings of bowlers, batsmen as well as for the all-rounders. Indian captain Virat Kohli, despite the defeat, retained his position at the top of the rankings for batsmen with a career-high rating of 937 points after he scored 46 and 58 runs in the fourth Test.
Curran’s teammate Moeen Ali who was named the man of the match at the Ageas Bowl also saw a rise in the bowlers’ rankings.
Curran moved up 29 places to reach to the 43rd position in the rankings for batsmen after his knocks of 78 and 46 in Southampton. He also moved up 11 places to reach to the 55th position in the list of bowlers. The left-handed batsman also rose to the 15th position in the all-rounders’ rankings after gaining a whopping 27 places.
Ali’s nine wickets against India in both the innings has helped him gain three slots to 33rd position with an increase in rating points. A five-wicket haul in the first innings followed by a four-wicket haul in the second helped the Worcestershire cricketer to 543 rating points. He also saw a rise by one slot in the rankings for all-rounders as he now holds the seventh place.
England wicket-keeper batsman Jos Buttler who defied the fiery Indian bowling in the second innings with a gritty 69 to help his team to set a 245-run target gained 15 places to reach to a career-best 32nd position in the rankings for batsmen with 584 points. Ahead of him is compatriot Ben Stokes who rose three places to make it to the 29th position. Opener Keaton Jennings also gained up four places to reach to the 86th position in the rankings for batsmen.
For India, Cheteshwar Pujara retained his sixth position in the list of position with an unbeaten 132 in the first innings. Nonetheless, he rose up from 763 to 798 rating points.
Fast bowler Mohammad Shami has made an entry into the top 20 courtesy a six-wicket haul in the match. He gained three places to move to the 19th position in the rankings for bowlers. Fellow bowler Ishant Swho took four wickets rose one place to attain the 25th position. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah moved to a career-best 487 rating points. The Gujarat fast bowler also retained his 37th position.
