Project Sakura Wars released in Japan in 2019. The game will release globally in 2020. It is the sixth mainline game in the series and a soft reboot for the franchise. However, the dedicated fans of the series have pulled off a feat that eluded even Sega.
23 years after the release of the Original Sega Saturn Sakura Wars game, a fan-translated version of the game is now available. It is the combined efforts of CJ_Iwakura’s team and NoahSteam’s team that made this humongous task possible. Some of the many who contributed their work included MatatabiMitsu, CrouchingMouse, Joqu, TrekkiesUnite118, Schlomo, and BowlOfLentils. NSteam tweeted the news, writing, “All of the instructions of how to play the patch are included in the readme.txt file, but for those wondering the recommended emulator for this is Mednafen which is able to play the game without issues. And yes it can be played in your modded Saturn #SakuraWars”

The gaming franchise died out with the release of Sakura Wars V: Farewell, My Lovely. This was the fifth title in the game series. While the game had strong reviews, it fizzled out with poor sales numbers. However, the franchise revived after years of fan campaigns. The new title was first announced in April 2018 under the title New Sakura Wars. Fans were reassured that the game would “inherit the DNA” of the series. In a later statement, Sega said that they hoped to continue the series beyond the sixth installment.
