Malegaon terror attack accused, Sadhvi Pragya has finally joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and decided to fight an election against Congress candidate Digvijay Singh from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat. Minutes after her announcement, Jammu and Kashmir former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti took to Twitter and asked what if she had fielded a terrorist?
The announcement of Sadhvi Pragya’s contesting Lok Sabha election from Bhopal came after ex-Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Uma Bharti refused to contest from the same constituency.
Sadhvi will contest from Bhopal Lok Sabha seat after former Madhya Pradesh chief ministers Chouhan and Uma Bharti declined to contest from the constituency. She will take on Congress candidate Digvijaya Singh.
Questioning India’s media, Mehbooba Mufti wrote on Twitter: “Imagine the anger if I’d field a terror accused. Channels would’ve gone berserk by now trending a mehboobaterrorist hashtag! According to these guys, terror has no religion when it comes to saffron fanatics but otherwise, all Muslims are terrorists. Guilty until proven innocent.”
Slamming the ruling party, Mehbooba Mufti said that there is no religion when it comes to saffron fanatics but according to them all Muslims are terrorists. After coming out from BJP party office in MP, Sadhvi Pragya Singh said, “I will contest the election from Bhopal and win. Former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is with me.”
It is to be noted that Sadhvi Pragya, is one of the accused in the 2008 Malegaon Blast case, is currently out on bail. She was given a clean chit by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) but the trial court refused to discharge her from the case.
On 27 December 2017, the Special NIA court dropped the charges under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against Lieutenant Colonel Prasad Purohit, Sadhvi Pragya, Sameer Kulkarni and other accused in the blast case.
Notably, in the Malegaon blast, six people were killed and 101 were injured when an improvised explosive device strapped on a motorcycle went off in Malegaon on 29 September 2008.
