RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat: Dharma means social duty
Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Friday said that Dharma does not only mean religious duties but it also refers to social duty. The RSS chief spoke about the Raj Dharma which the rulers speak on. He said these at a function in Mumbai to mark the birth centenary of late RSS leader Nana Palkar. Industrialist Ratan Tata shared the stage with him.
Explaining the meaning the Dharma, Bhagwat said, as reported by The Financial Express, “Dharma does not mean only rituals. It also means working for uniting and uplifting society. It is a duty towards society. Dharma is also the duty of son towards father, father’s duty towards the son, and those who are elected to power, speak of “Raj Dharma” (ruler’s duty). We have to perform the duty without seeking anything in return.”
Adding on, he said that the Sangh believes in “inclusive development” and nation-building through collective effort. Sharing his views on Palkar he stated that Palkar served the society with “genuine willpower” and the urge to do good.
Applauding Tata, the RSS chief said, as quoted by the daily, “We were all eager to hear the chief guest, but when I asked him he said he feels shy of speaking. Those who do work, they feel shy of speaking. The organisations which do work, give the job of speaking to some people. Today that job has been assigned to me,” adding, “the work always speaks for itself”.
Bhagwat lauded the Tata Group by saying that its focus has always been on the use of wealth for the betterment of society and not on the creation of personal wealth.
