Stand-in skipper Rohit Sharma became the highest run scorer for India in T20Is when he surpassed Virat Kohli, during the second T20 International on Tuesday against the West Indies at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee International Stadium in Lucknow.
Rohit who led India to a win, was participating in his 86th T20I when he overtook Kohli’s aggregate of 2102 runs. The Mumbai batsman achieved the land-mark by hitting a six off the bowling of Oshane Thomas over the long-off boundary in the fifth over, which was bowled by Oshane Thomas.

He this becomes the second highest run-getter for India in the shortest version of the game by toppling the likes of Brendon McCullum (2140 runs from 71 games) and Shoaib Malik (2190 runs in 108 games). The first spot in the list belongs to Martin Guptill, who has 2271 runs to his name in 75 T20I appearances for New Zealand.
The right-hander also achieved the record of scoring the most number of hundreds in the format when he scored his fourth ton as India ended their first innings effort at 195/2.
Rohit was in terrific form in the ODI series as well where he aggregated a total of 389 runs in the five matches. He also surpassed Kohli in registering the highest individual score in ODIs by an Indian batsman this year.
His 162 off 137 deliveries against the West Indies–which was his seventh 150+ score in ODIs, the right-hander went past Kohli’s 16- which he had scored in Cape Town.
