Bollywood is in a numb state after the loss of actor Irrfan Khan yesterday April 29. Versatile actor Rishi Kapoor too breathed his last today.
Rishi Kapoor who marked his debut in Bollywood with Mera Naam Joker went on to be the iconic romantic hero who made many swoon over him. This popular Kapoor had proven his mettle on the big screen time and again.
Rishi Kapoor the original chocolate boy of Bollywood had a few years back moved to supporting roles. The actor gave performances that dominated the entire movie.
Here are Rishiji’s seven iconic unconventional roles that left his fans wowed:
1. Do Dooni Chaar (2010)
In Do Dooni Chaar, he portrayed the role of Santosh Duggal, who was a school teacher with dreams of having his own car. He owned the character and was praised by critics and audiences alike.
2. Student of The Year (2012):
Dean Yogendra Vashishth was principal of an institution, a friend a guardian. He was a gay school dean who has a crush on the coach played by Ronit Roy! Mr. Kapoor did a great job with such finesse that you cannot picture anyone else on this role.
3. Agneepath (2012):
Rishi Kapoor’s character in this movie was Rauf Lala. He played an underworld don who owned a meat business and simultaneously handled drug smuggling and prostitution. He was at his best and gave the audience creeps despite the presence of a bald Sanjay Dutt as Kancha Cheena.
4. D-Day (2013):
The character of Iqbal Seth aka Goldman was loosely based on Dawood Ibrahim. Nikkhil Advani’s thriller based on India and Pakistan had Rishi Kapoor playing a version of Dawood Ibrahim. He claims to be a businessman but could bring the city to a standstill.
5. Kapoor & Sons (2016):
Amarjeet Kapoor aka Daadu’s character was nothing but hilarious. A nearly unrecognizable Rishi Kapoor was a grandpa who was 90+ years old, who faked his death all the time. Though he didn’t have as much screen time, Rishi Kapoor still made his presence felt in the movie.
6. Mulk (2018):
One of the last of the actor’s excellent roles was Advocate Murad Ali Mohammed. He was accused of being a terrorist because of his nephew’s extremist ideologies and actions. He gave a performance worth remembering!
7. 102 Not Out (2018):
This movie brought the iconic jodi of Amitabh Bachchan and Rishi Kapoor together after a long hiatus. Rishi played Babulal Vakharia a 75-year-old son of a 102-year-old dad who lived together. The chemistry shared by the actors made this film a memorable one.
The actor was to be seen in a remake of Hollywood blockbuster ‘The Intern’ with Deepika Padukone.
