Remembering Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on his 77th death anniversary today. The Nobel laureate, who has shaped the modern philosophy and literature of India, was born in the illustrious Tagore family (who were also at the forefront of Bengal renaissance). Tagore was born on 7th May 1861. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913 and became the first non-European to win it. Till date he is the only Nobel prize winner in literature from India. In 2004, the prize was stolen from the safety vault of Visva-Bharati University.
