Rape case registered against Daati Maharaj after three months of investigation
Over three months later after an FIR was registered against self-styled godman Daati Maharaj, a chargesheet has finally been filed by the Delhi Police Crime Branch on Monday.
A 25-year-old woman, who claimed to have been a disciple of the Baba for 10 years, had filed an FIR against the godman alleging rape by him and two of his other male disciples.
The complaint was registered at south Delhi’s Fatehpur Beri police station June 11, earlier this year. Three months later Maharaj has been charged under sections 376, 377 of the Indian Penal Code at Saket District Court in New Delhi, reported Times Now.

The victim narrating her ordeal had also mentioned that after she was raped, she was forced to return to her home in Rajasthan. The lady had also accused a female disciple of the godmen of forcefully taking her into the baba’s room, where he would sexually assault her. And she refused, she was often told that those other disciples also slept with him.
A petition was filed by an NGO in the Delhi High Court in July which claimed that the manner in which the investigation was conducted by the Delhi Police’s crime branch seemed biased and unfair. It also further alleged that the witnesses could be influenced and the evidence could be destructed if the investigation was delayed in such a manner.
The petition had also demanded that the investigation should be transferred to the crime branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
