But Maharashtra would be walking away the happier side as they bagged three crucial points from the match, for taking a first innings lead.
Maharashtra had taken a 79-run lead in the first innings. They, however, could manage only 254 in their second innings led by a 76-run knock from skipper Rahul Tripathi at the MCA International Stadium.
Shivam Dubey and Shivam Malhotra were on the money for Mumbai as three snared three wickets each. The 41-time champions for some time now and had to chase down 334 runs.
But it was when Mumbai had scored 135 off 5 that the match was declared.
In Chennai, it was Tamil Nadu who won their first fixture this season defeating Kerala by 151 runs.

At Porvorim: Services 184 and 332 (Rahul Singh Gahlaut 111, Rajat Paliwal 94; Amit Verma 5-39) drew with Goa 259 and 67/2 (Amit Verma 23 not out).
