It has been a year since the unfortunate demise of Sushant Singh Rajput. Last year, on June 14, the ‘Dil Bechara’ actor passed away at his Bandra residence in Mumbai leaving his fans, family in shock. Sushant Singh Rajput was one of the finest actors Hindi cinema had ever seen. He started his journey in the TV industry and then ventured into the world of Hindi films in 2013.
In his 7 years stint in cinema, he played a wide variety of characters and proved his acting prowess with each performance, but he also offered some big roles which he turned down. Here’s a list of popular Bollywood movies that were rejected by the late Sushant Singh Rajput.
Films that Sushant Singh Rajput rejected:
1. Goliyon Ki Raasleela-Ram Leela
‘Ram Leela’ is written and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, and starred Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles. Sanjay Leela Bhansali was interrogated by the Mumbai Police in connection with SSR‘s suicide case, wherein he revealed that ‘Ram Leela’, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, and ‘Padmaavat’ was offered to Rajput, but due to his busy schedules and prior commitments, he could not be a part of those films.
2. Fitoor
‘Fitoor’ was offered to Sushant Singh Rajput for the lead role but he turned the offer down due to his busy shooting schedule. Later, Aditya Roy Kapoor played the role, directed by Abhishek Kapoor, produced by Siddharth Roy Kapur, and written by Kapoor and Supratik Sen based on Charles Dickens’ 1861 novel Great Expectations. The film also starred Katrina Kaif.
3. Kabir Singh
Earlier, ‘Kabir Singh’ was offered to Sushant Singh Rajput and Arjun Kapoor to play the lead Kabir’s role however both of them rejected the role, and later Shahid Kapoor went on to play the part and also featured Kiara Advani in the lead. A remake of Vanga’s own Telugu film Arjun Reddy (2017)
4. Andhadhun
Director Sriram Raghavan wanted to cast Sushant during the film, however, the role was offered to Ayushmann Khurrana. The film also starred Tabu, and Radhika Apte.
5. RAW: Romeo Akbar Walter
Sushant Singh was the first choice for the role but he opted out. Later, John Abraham took the lead in this film which hit the screens in 2019, written and directed by Robbie Grewal. SSR was also the face on the posters of the film when it was first released in 2017.
6. Half Girlfriend
Kriti Sanon and Sushant Singh Rajput were considered for the lead roles. However later, SSR had to drop out of the film. Reportedly, Sushant had revealed that he had long ago agreed to do Dinesh Vijan’s film, even before ‘Half Girlfriend’ was offered to him.
