Due to the coronavirus outbreak, PM Narendra addressed the nation and announced for a 21-day lockdown in India. To entertain the public, government decided to re-telecast the mythological serials of the 80s- Ramayan and Mahabharat on public demand. Mahabharat and Ramayan were re-telecast from March 28.
Since both the serials are re-telecast, they are getting immense love from the audience. Specially Ramanand Sagar’s Ramayan is garnering millions of views all across the nation. Ramayan is telecast twice at 9 am and 9 pm on DD National every day. Mahabharat is also shown twice with fresh episodes at 12 pm and 7 pm on DD Bharati daily.
As per a report in PTI, Ramayan garnered 170 million viewers in four shows over the last weekend in its new avatar, the BARC said on Thursday. Ramayan is the highest watched “serial” in the Hindi general entertainment space ever, the Broadcast Audience Research Council said.
Prasar Bharati CEO Shashi Shekhar wrote in his tweet, “Thrilled to share that the re-telecast of RAMAYAN on @ddnational has garnered the highest ever rating for a Hindi GEC show since 2015 (source: @BARCIndia)”

BARC’s chief executive Sunil Lulla is surprised by the numbers of viewers and called the move by the Prasar Bharti a “brilliant” one.
The first day of the show i.e on Saturday morning had 34 million viewers while the show, the same evening had 45 million viewers. On Sunday, both the morning and evening telecasts got a better response with 40 million and 51 million people watching.
Other shows that are re-telecast on DD National are Circus at 3 pm, Shriman Shrimati at 4 pm, Buniyad at 5 pm, Dekh Bhai Dekh at 6 pm, Shaktimaan at 8 pm, Ramayan at 9 pm and Chanakya at 10 pm. Alif Laila at 10.30 am on DD Bharati and Upanishad Ganga at 6 pm.
