Ram Kadam: Case registered against him in Solapur; gets support from other BJP ministers
A non-cognisable offence has been registered against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Ram Kadam in Solapur district for making a controversial remark during Janmashtami celebration in Mumbai. BJP’s controversial leader Ram Kadam represents Ghatkopar constituency. A woman social activist has lodged a complaint against Mr Kadam at Barshi Police station in Solapur.
Since Mr Kadam made a remark during the celebration of Janmashtami in Mumbai, encouraging boys to elope with girls whom they want to marry. He has been a topic of discussion and found himself at the centre of controversies. While Shiv Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray demanded his resignation and urged all political parties to not to give him a ticket to contest any election.
“Action should be taken against those who insult our mothers and sisters. He should not be given a ticket by any party. I wonder whether the BJP has given a Beti Bhagao programme to Kadam and others,” said Uddhav Thackeray while addressing the media.
Despite his non-sense remark Ram Kadam got support from BJP Ministers including Chandrakant Patil and Pankaja Munde. Chandrakant Patil said, “Ram Kadam has publicly apologised and this issue should now be ended. He is known for immensely helping women. Thousands of women in his constituency tie him rakhi every year.”
Minister for women and children welfare Pankaja Munde said, “I don’t know his intention, but a wrong message went out. However, as he has apologised, the matter should be closed.”
Mumbai Congress President, Sanjay Nirupam has also asked Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to look into this and expel him from the party, if BJP does not take any action against him, Congress would not allow the upcoming Legislative Assembly session to function.
A video clip showed him saying that youngsters often seek his help when girls reject their love proposals. “Come with your parents. What will I do if your parents approve? I will kidnap the girl and hand her over to you,” he was heard telling the crowd.
“A non-cognisable case under IPC sections 504 (insult with the intention to provoke breach of peace) and 505 (B) (intent to cause fear or alarm to the public) was registered against Ram Kadam,” the official said.
Despite having registered against Ram Kadam, Police cannot start an investigation of a non-cognisable offence without a court’s order.
