The Enforcement Directorate has summoned Rakul Preet Singh, Rana Dagubatti and 10 other celebrities. The South Celebrities are summoned in connection with a four-year-old drugs case. Confirming the news an ED official said that the financial probe agency has summoned Rakul Preet, Daggubati, Teja, Puri Jagannadh, Charmme Kaur and Mumaith Khan, among others, for questioning on separate dates.
The official added that the agency has asked Puri Jagannadh to appear before it on August 31, Rakul Preet has been asked to join the probe on September 6, while Rana Daggubati and Teja have been asked to appear before the agency on September 8 and 9, respectively.
As reported by sources to India Today, the celebrities have been summoned as witnesses in the case. The money laundering probe by the ED is based on a case by the excise and prohibition department. The Special Investigation Team of Hyderabad Excise And Prohibition Department in July 2017 launched an investigation against Tollywood celebrities and others.
In 2017, the 12 actors and directors from Tollywood appeared before the Special Investigation Team of the Telangana Prohibition and Excise Department. This was in connection with a high-end online drug racket. A South African national, Rafael Alex Victor, was also arrested by SIT for allegedly supplying cocaine from Mumbai to Hyderabad.
But SIT has not disclosed to date if any celebrity was part of drug trafficking or consumption.
