Expressing his opinion that there has been a major shift in the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir in last four months, Union Minister of Home Affairs Rajnath Singh on Tuesday stated that number of militant recruitment fell in the state.
The Union Minister who was on a one-day tour to the valley to take a stock of the security situation, said, “As far as the J&K security situation is concerned, a major shift is seen in last four months. There has been a decrease in the numbers of stone pelting incidents. Also, I have got information that there has been a fall in the number of militant recruitment in the state.”
Before addressing the media, Singh also met with the senior police officials and discussed the security issues with them. Singh’s visit comes a day after three militants and six civilians were killed during an encounter launched by security forces in Laroo area of Kulgam. The civilians were killed as the explosive burst at the encounter spot when locals gathered before the sanitisation could be completed by the forces, reports Indian Express.
Soon after the death, the central government announced Rs 5 lakh compensation to the victim’s family. Singh also met the Governor Satya Pal Malik, former CM Omar Abdullah and top civil, police and security forces officials in his visit.
The visit by the Home Minister holds significance as for the first time BJP claimed a thumping victory in the recently held panchayat polls — held after a gap of 13 years in the state. This happened as the National Conference (NC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) boycotted the elections.
