A Bharatiya Janata Party worker, Samrath Kumawat was allegedly killed by bike-borne men in Rajasthan on Saturday. The incident is said to have taken place when the victim was standing on the roadside, suddenly a group comprising of three to four men approached him and then chopped off his neck with a sword.
The BJP worker died on the spot even though people rushed to his rescue. The group of men fled following the incident.
According to the NDTV report, locals have staged protest along with Kumawat’s dead body demanding the arrest of attackers as soon as possible. Meanwhile, police have assured that action will be taken soon and that the attackers will be arrested.
The deceased’s family said that he had no enmity with anyone. His death left the entire neighbourhood in shocked as he was an active member of the BJP.
“Samrath Kumavat was a senior BJP worker in the village,” said Mangu Singh, a local BJP leader.
Congress leader Ashok Gehlot condemned the murder and wrote on Twitter: “I condemn the brutal killing of BJP’s Sh Samrath Kumawat in #Pratapgarh, #Rajasthan. Perpetrators of such heinous crime must be severely punished. Pathetic condition of Law and order in state is a matter of grave concern”
