The Central Railways has raised the price of platform tickets at key stations in Mumbai. The reason behind the step is to avoid overcrowding during the upcoming summer season. The action has been taken to curb the spread of COVID-19 that is once again on the rise in many states.
News agency PTI quoted Central Railways’ Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Shivaji Sutar. He said that instead of the previous rate of Rs 10, a platform ticket will now costs Rs 50. The price rise will be seen at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Dadar and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT) stations in Mumbai. In the neighbouring Thane, Panvel, Kalyan and Bhiwandi Road stations too the price has been raised.
He further added that the new rate for platform tickets came into force on 24 February 2021. It will remain effective till June 15 this year. The decision to increase the price of platform tickets was taken to prevent over-crowding at these railway stations during the summer travel rush.
