Rahul Gandhi confirms his resignation as Congress Chief
Rahul Gandhi said that he will not be involved in the process of the selection of the new party chief.
Rahul Gandhi has decided to step down from the position of the party chief of Congress after the poor performance of the party in the Lok Sabha election 2019. Today he made it clear that he will step down and won’t be involved in the process of the selection of the new party chief. He told NDTV, “I am not going to get involved in that process, otherwise it will complicate things and the party has to decide.” He was quoted as saying by PTI, “I am not the right person to make a decision and will not get involved in that process.”
After the party’s failure in the Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi took the responsibility of the failure upon him and told that he would quit as the party chief.
The CWC had rejected Rahul Gandhi’s resignation and gave him the authority to undertake a complete restructuring of the Congress party.
As reported by Indian Express, while speaking to media outside Parliament on June 20, Rahul Gandhi said that there was “theft” in India’s Rafale fighter jet deal with France. He said, “I maintain my stand that there has been theft in the Rafale jet deal.”
He has said that he will stay in the party and work for it.
In the Lok Sabha elections 2019, Rahul Gandhi won from Kerala’s Wayanad but he was defeated by Smriti Irani in Amethi where Rahul Gandhi held the seat for the longest period. It was a big blow on his face.
