Congress president Rahul Gandhi today paid a visit to the Alwar gang-rape survivor and said that both the survivor and her family will receive justice. Earlier the Congress government in the state was criticised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Mayawati who said the administration suppressed the attack. Last week during a rally in Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh Modi said, “A Dalit girl was gang-raped by thugs. Instead of catching the accused the Congress government is trying to bury the case. This happened because there were elections in the state then. They delayed justice. This is the truth of Congress’ nyay.”
Rahul Gandhi refused to comment on the allegations and said, “The only thing I would say is this girl, this family, will get justice. I have not come here to do politics. It’s an emotional thing for me. I have come here to meet the survivor”.
For the unversed, the rape incident took place on April 26. A woman of a Dalit community was riding on a motorcycle with her husband and then the rape accused took them to a field, beat the husband and raped the woman. The husband said that he informed the police on April 30 but no action was taken till May 7. An FIR was lodged on May 2.
Mr. Gandhi told reporters, “I have met the victim’s family and they have sought justice. It will be done.” He was with the Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, AICC State in-charge Avinash Pande and Congress candidate from Alwar, Jitendra Singh.
