Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi were detained by the police. The siblings were on way to meet the family of the Hathras rape victim. Rahul Gandhi alleged today that he was pushed to the ground and lathi-charged. It incident took place when they were marching on the highway between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh after their convoy was stopped on its way to Hathras.
“Just now police pushed me, lathicharged me and threw me to the ground. I want to ask, can only Modi Ji walk in this country? Can’t a normal person walk? Our vehicle was stopped, so we started walking,” Rahul Gandhi said, targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Gandhis sat on the road with hundreds of supporters after the Uttar Pradesh police refused to let them continue.
Rahul Gandhi was taken to preventive custody at Yamuna Expressway on his way to Hathras.
The young girl from a Dalit family was raped by four men of the upper caste. She suffered multiple fractures, paralysis and severe spinal injury and cuts on her tongue. The teenager died on Tuesday at a hospital in Delhi. The UP police took away her body, and cremated the body at 2.20 am with only a few policemen around and no family member.
