Congress president Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday and accused him of snatching taxpayer’s money for Rafale deal. He alleged that PM Modi handed over the poor people’s money to Reliance Defence, owned by industrialist Anil Ambani.
Addressing people in his Lok Sabha constituency Amethi, Rahul Gandhi said, “The chowkidar of the country has taken out Rs 20,000 crore from the pockets of the poor, martyrs and the jawans and put it in the pocket of Ambani.” The Congress also made sharp attacks on the premier for not disclosing the price for Rafale fighter jets and asked him how Ambani was given the contract.
Calling Modi a ‘chowkidar’, allegedly failed in fulfilling his responsibilities, Gandhi was of the opinion that people of the country have the right to know about the cost incurred to get the deal signed. He said, as quoted by PTI, “Why was the price not disclosed…how was the contract given to Ambani… serious charges have been levelled by former French president Francois Hollande.”
During the speech, Gandhi recalled his Monsoon Session speech and reiterated that PM Modi couldn’t look into his eyes. He said, “The prime minister could not look me in the eye. PM gives speeches but no answers… he does not have the courage to give reply.”
Accusing the BJP-led Union government for not paying heed to the ailing farmers and poor people of the country, while benefitting the industrialists like Vijay Mallya and Lalit Modi to flee with money, the Congress president said, “Under the BJP government, the farmers and poor are crying… the present government is providing all benefits to a selected five to ten people.” Gandhi claimed that no contract exists with the Government of India and Reliance group’s allegations are false.
