On April 9, The Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip passed away which took the entire nation in shock. Queen Elizabeth II’s husband was the longest-serving consort in British history. On Friday, Buckingham Palace announced that he died peacefully at Windsor Castle at the age of 99.
Now, Queen Elizabeth has returned to the royal duties four days after her husband’s demise. On Tuesday, she attended her first royal engagement. According to the latest reports, the queen hosted a ceremony as The Earl Peel stepped down as Lord Chamberlain with the Royal Victorian Chain honour.
The daily record of public duties of the British monarchy stated: “The Earl Peel had an audience of The Queen today, delivered up his Wand and Insignia of Office as Lord Chamberlain and the Badge of Chancellor of the Royal Victorian Order and took leave upon relinquishing his appointment as Lord Chamberlain when Her Majesty invested him with the Royal Victorian Chain.”
Meanwhile, Prince Philip’s funeral will be held on April 17. Prince Harry has already arrived in the UK to attend his grandfather’s funeral, however, his wife, the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, will not be attending the last rites as she is pregnant with the couple’s second child.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, only 30 people will be allowed to attend the Royal Ceremonial event, which will include the Queen’s close family. The funeral will be at St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle at 3 p.m. U.K. time (10 a.m. ET) and will be broadcast live.
