Star Indian shuttler PV Sindhu on Wednesday praises the efforts of the people from different spheres who have come out and exposed instances of sexual abuse towards them by known personalities.
The #MeToo storm was kicked off in Bollywood when actress Tanushree Dutta revealed an instance of sexual abuse by Nana Patekar years ago. Recently, writer-cum-producer Vinta Nanda also spoke about being the victim of sexual misconduct by Alok Nath.
The popular journalist-turned-politician MJ Akbar was also accused by many journalists of alleged misconduct and harassment.
“I appreciate that people have come forward and spoken about it. I respect it,” the shuttler said, on the sidelines of an event by telecom company Vodafone, where they launched a service named, “Sakhi” for women.
When asked if she knew about such cases of sexual harassment in sports, the 23-year old added,” I don’t know about seniors and coaches. As far as I am concerned, I have been in sports circuit for years and it has been good and fine with me.”
Just a day ago, Sindhu’s colleague Jwala Gutta spoke about getting mentally harassment by a coach but didn’t reveal any names.
