A total of 17,337 cases out of 59,117 were settled in National Lok Adalats in Punjab within one day. It is to be noted that the Lok Adalats are Litigant centered Alternative Dispute Resolution mechanism in which members of Lok Adalat benches motivate and assist the parties to amicably arrive to a settlement.
Disclosing this, Harpreet Kaur Jeewan Member Secretary, Punjab State Legal Services Authority and District & Sessions Judge said that under the guidance of Hon’ble Justice Madan B Lokur, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Executive Chairman, National Legal Services Authority and under the leadership of Hon’ble Justice TPS Mann, Judge, Punjab and Haryana High Court and Executive Chairman, Punjab State Legal Services Authority, National Lok Adalat was held throughout the State.
59117 Cases were taken up in National Lok Adalat, out of which 17337 Cases were disposed off and total amount awarded was Rs 8,76,74,89,666. People were very enthusiastic and actively participated in the Lok Adalat.
Justice TPS Mann had been throughout motivating and guiding all the Judicial Officers in the state of Punjab to select right cases to be taken up in the Lok Adalat, make maximum pre-sittings to assist the Parties so that they can resolve the disputes amicably.
Meetings were also held at a state level to pursue the banks, insurance companies, revenue authorities and other Government Authorities to positively contribute for settlement of cases in the Lok Adalat.

The Member Secretary further said that court fees levied is refunded once the case is settled amicably and the decision taken is final with no room for appeal.
