Puducherry CM Naryanaswamy gets into drain to clean for ‘Swacchata Hi Seva’ mission
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Puducherry Chief Minister V Narayanaswamy steps inside the dirty drain armed with a spade to clean the drain. The video of Puducherry CM cleaning the dirty drain has gone viral on Social media.
Narayanaswamy himself posted a video on Twitter account saying it is a part of Swachhata Hi Seva moment launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to generate greater public participation in the cleanliness mission.
Narayanaswamy can be seen in the video, donning white clothes and dhoti hitched up, extracting muck from a dark and dirty drain, was seen by many to be in sharp contrast to events where politicians are seen cleaning “sanitized” and deliberately littered spots or posing for cameras sporting gloves and brand new brooms.

According to the report, when Puducherry CM spotted a clogged open drain on the Kamaraj Salai near the market in Saram he immediately asked for a spade and cleaning gloves from municipal workers to clean the drain. Later he took off his foot and entered into the drain bar foot and started cleaning the drain.
One of the Congress workers on Twitter wrote, “It’s really so glad to see your sincere efforts and dedicated efforts. You became a role model for our Congress party workers sir. God will give you more strength to serve more for our country.”
The cleanliness campaign Swachhta Hi Seva was launched by PM Narendra Modi for generating public participation towards sanitation to mark the commencement of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in 2019.
PM Modi had earlier highlighted that more than nine crore toilets have been built in the last four years and over 4.5 lakh villages have been declared an open defecation free.
