Watch: Professor touches student’s feet begging for pardon after being called ‘anti-national’
Accused of being anti-national by ABVP activists, a senior professor from a government college touched the feet of the protesting students begging for forgiveness in Mandsaur, Bhopal on Thursday.
Professor Dinesh Gupta, reports Indian Express, was teaching inside a classroom when he was disturbed by a group of the ABVP protestors, who raised slogans protesting over the delay of the declaration of the fourth semester (Science) results. The students were marching towards the Principal’s room chanting their protests.
Disturbed by such noise outside the classroom, the professor reportedly asked the students not to shout as it was getting difficult to teach the class.
But the protestors, as reported by the daily, instead alleged that he was stopping them from shouting “Vande Mataram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai” and called him an “anti-national.” The students even threatened to even file an FIR against Gupta for stopping them form chanting nationalistic slogans.
Scared and troubled by the thought of what it could lead to, the professor fell on their feet begging for forgiveness. It has also been alleged that the professor was forced to fall into the feet of the protestors and beg for pardon or face the consequences.

In a video, put up online, the professor can be seen following the protestors – who walk away – and touching their feet one by one, even as they stop him from doing so.
BJP MLA of Mandsaur Yashpal Sisodiya sad that the incident was made big and was not as large an issue as it was presented to be. The students never asked the professor to touch their feet, claimed Yashpal, the professor did it on his own.
He also added that there was no video footage to prove that the students had forced him to apologise by touching their feet, reports the daily. “I am trying to get the students to apologise if they are at fault. Or to get him to pardon the students,” said Sisodiya adding he was trying to conciliate between both the parties.
The teacher has now reportedly gone on a three-day leave.
