As the march was stopped, Priyanka Gandhi said, “Any dissent against this government is classified as having elements of terror. We are undertaking this march to voice our support for the farmers. We’re living in a democracy and they are elected MPs. They have the right to meet the President and they should be allowed. What is the problem with that? Government is not ready to listen to voices of lakhs of farmers camping at borders.”
Thousands of farmers have been camping at various border sites around the national capital for over four weeks now. They are demanding a complete repeal of the three farm laws. The farmers fear that they will eliminate the MSP and leave them at the mercy of big corporates.
However, the government has touted these laws as major reforms. Five rounds of talks between the government and farmers have not yielded concrete results.
