Prodigious batsman Prithvi Shaw is all set to make his Test debut for India against the West Indies as part of the two-match series which gets underway in Saurashtra on Thursday.
His inclusion into the team is this a departure from the regular openers-Murali Vijay and Shikhar Dhawan. The young Shaw is all set to open the innings alongside KL Rahul. Mayank Agarwal, who was named into the squad after a fine domestic season, thus failed to make into the team.
Vijay and Dhawan opened the innings in England cut a sorry figure for themselves as they failed to provide good starts to the team and often threw away their wickets needlessly when the team required their services.
A veteran of 14 first calls matches, Shaw he has scored 1418 runs at an impressive average of 56.71.

“We have a change at the top of the order and we will give these guys enough space and enough chances to feel comfortable at that position,” Virat Kohli, the Indian skipper said, in his interaction with the reporters.
“We want them to be confident about what they are doing.
“Apart from the top of the order getting cemented, I don’t think that with these two test matches there’s a lot that we are looking at. The rest of the things feel quite settled.
“At the top of the order these guys are new, so they will take a bit of time to get into it. They definitely have the skill-set, they are supremely talented and what we have seen of them is very, very exciting,” he further added.
Shaw was part of the Indian squad for the last two Test matches in England but didn’t get a game. He would want to cement his spot in the Indian playing XI before the much-awaited Test series against Australia towards the end of the year.
