Prem Singh Tamang sworn in as new Chief Minister of Sikkim
After the sworn in ceremony, he declared a five-day week for the state government employees in Sikkim.
Prem Singh Tamang, popularly known as P S Golay was sworn in as the sixth chief minister of Sikkim by governor Ganga Prasad at Gangtok’s Paljore stadium on Monday. Sikkhim got the new Chief Minister after the 25-year rule of the Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) under the leader Pawan Chamling. Chamling had the record of serving for the longest time as a CM in an Indian state.
After the sworn in ceremony, he declared a five-day week for the state government employees in Sikkhim. As reported by PTI, while addressing the media Prem Singh Tamang said, “We have fulfilled one of our election promises to reduce the working week for government employees from six days earlier to five days. The government employees will get an additional day as a holiday which they will use to take care of their health and that of their parents and family members.”
He also said, “For the time being we have no option but to use Fortuner SUVs, but we will use Scorpio vehicles once they are made available to us.”
PM Narendra Modi took to his Twitter handle to congratulate the newly elected Chief Minister. He tweeted, “Congratulations to Shri Prem Singh Tamang on taking oath as Sikkim’s Chief Minister. I assure full support from the Centre in furthering Sikkim’s development.”
