Pranab Mukherjee’s mortal remains arrive at his Delhi residence, last rites to be held today

Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee passed away on Monday at Army Hospital (R&R), Delhi. He suffered a fall at his Rajaji Marg house and had been operated to remove a blood clot in his brain on August 10, he had also tested positive for the novel Coronavirus. On August 19, Pranab Mukherjee’s health condition had declined as he had developed a lung infection.

According to the reports, the former president’s mortal remains have arrived at his Delhi residence. His last rites will be held today and he will be cremated at Lodhi Road crematorium at 2 pm in New Delhi.

He passed away at Army Hospital (R&R), Delhi Cantt yesterday. Seven-day state mourning being observed across India from 31 Aug to 6 Sept, both days inclusive.” tweeted ANI.

The news was confirmed by Mukherjee’s son, Abhijit Mukerjee, he tweeted as: “With a Heavy Heart , this is to inform you that my father Shri #PranabMukherjee has just passed away inspite of the best efforts of Doctors of RR Hospital & prayers ,duas & prarthanas from people throughout India ! I thank all of You 🙏”

The central government on Monday announced seven-day state mourning on the demise of former president Pranab Mukherjee. During the state mourning, from 31 August to 6 September, the national flag will fly at half-mast on buildings across India and there will be no official entertainment, said Ministry of Home Affairs.
