Police Badminton Championship: Jammu and Kashmir personnel bag two medals
Displaying exemplary talent in highly rated All India Police Badminton Championship, two personnel of Jammu and Kashmir police clinched medals. Notably, Mirza Sultan and Basanti Bhat bagged bronze medal in a mixed doubles category. Basanti Bhat bagged silver in the singles event.
In the mixed doubles category, Mirza Sultan (Security Wing) and Basanti Bhat (CID Wing) were heading to win the match and were leading with a commanding Score of 11-4 when due to ill luck, Mirza injured his knee and had to retire hurt. The pair had to settle for a bronze medal.
In another event, Basanti Bhat gave a tough fight to the opponent in the semifinal and lost with a difference of only two points in a three-game thriller.
On the other side, Nagaland Police won three gold medals at the 11th All India Police Badminton Championship. Mizoram police team clinched overall championship while CRPF team ended as runner-up.
The Championship was held at IG Stadium New Delhi from October 22 and concluded on Friday. Union Minister for Sports, Rajvinder Singh Rathore was the chief guest on the closing ceremony of the tournament, which was organised by CRPF. Altogether 399 players, including 50 female players, participated in 16 categories.
